In Congress, Tom will do exactly what he did as a state legislator in Helena - fight for the working Montanans that built this state.
Montana is home, and home is worth fighting for. My story is just like anyone else’s here. I work, I fish, I ski, I drive my two dogs around the state looking for good camping spots in the summer and get up early on a powder day in the winter. I want a good life for my family and me.
My little sister suffers from a chronic illness, my father suffers from Alzheimer’s, my other father from cancer. We all have pre-existing conditions, we all get sick. But my state representative did not understand that. He wanted to cut 50,000 Montanans’ healthcare. He wanted to win in politics by hurting people he deemed “freeloaders” - the elderly, working families - the people who need good government most.
So I ran for the Montana state legislature in a district held by that same Republican - a district that voted for President Trump +11 points. My family and I knocked on every door we could 7 times over, for a total of 22,000 porch visits. We built a campaign that wasn’t afraid to tackle the issues head on, we built relationships with neighbors, we built a community, we listened, and we won.
Once in Helena, I did exactly as I had promised the community I now represented. I authored 24 bills - a record - and followed through on every campaign promise. I brought bills to protect families like mine from scammer insurance companies, to ensure Montanans with pre-existing conditions could get healthcare. I also authored bills to zero-out taxes on the middle class by taxing out-of-town millionaire’s vacation mansions, and to ensure that our state got the best deal on expensive, life-saving drugs. When it came to protecting my constituents that live in mobile homes, I took the fight to their landlords, too. Because home is always worth fighting for.
But this fight doesn’t stop in the Statehouse. The same politicians run every year, put forward by political parties and insiders that didn’t hear you the first time. Montanans deserve good government that treats everyone with dignity and respect. That includes respecting the will and the voice of the voters. Those values built this state, and they build our campaign for Congress every day.
